Paint Doctor
Here we will try and answer some of your common painting questions. If you have a question that we haven’t answered here please contact us and we will be more than happy to answer it for you.
What is chalking?
Chalking occurs as paint begins to break down due to the chemical binders releasing their pigments. It is especially common in drier climates and can be identified by the fine powder residue that begins to build up on walls. You can test for chalking by brushing your fingers across the paint and seeing if it leaves a residue on your fingers. If it does, it probably time to clean up the wall and repaint.
Can you repair water stains?
Absolutely. Our experienced painters can make your water stains disappear.
What should I do about cracked or flaking paint?
Cracked and flaking paint will need to be removed and the area cleaned of contaminants before a primer and new coat of paint can be applied. Our painters always pressure wash, scrape, and clean surfaces to make sure new coats of paint can bond correctly with the surface. If the surface is not properly prepared, the new coat of paint will not correctly adhere to the surface and will be subject to a much faster deterioration.
I have gaps, cracks, or holes in my wall – can you fix them?
We can caulk and spackle small gaps, cracks, and holes. Larger problems may require more extensive repairs and we would be happy to give you a free quote on repairs.
